‘It’s Happening Again’ is the new single from Agnes Obel, available to stream and download now and impacting on December 30. The animated video for the track, created/directed by her long-time collaborator Alex Bruel Flagstad, was premiered today on NPR’s “First Watch”, view here XXXX.
‘It’s Happening Again’ is the third single to be taken from Obel’s critically acclaimed new album ‘Citizen Of Glass’, following the singles ‘Familiar’ and ‘Golden Green’.
The album’s title comes from the German concept of the Gläserner bürger, the “human or glass citizen,” that deals with the individual’s level of privacy. Rooted in today’s overshare-heavy age of social media, Obel has woven this concept, lyrically and musically, into the album’s ten tracks, as they examine the provocative topics of transparency and diminishing privacy, a world of “glass people” who bare all via social media, and the affect that has on us emotionally and creatively.
‘Citizen Of Glass’ has received unanimous critical plaudits:
“With its beauty and sonic twists, Citizen Of Glass is a thing of quiet wonder” **** Q
“While 2013’s Aventine was a glacial landmark, Agnes Obel’s self-produced follow-up is so much of a leap that it should increase her audience exponentially” **** Mojo
“Unsettling, but very pretty…a bold experiment that pays off” Sunday Times Culture Magazine
“The perfect link between the experimental and the accessible. Jazz? Classical? Pop? Who cares, it’s gorgeous.” Monocle
“…intriguing orchestral music, cleanly arranged but with mysteriously swirling melodies” **** FT
“A beautiful sounding album” **** HiFi Plus
“Berlin-based Danish Dynamo is on rapturous form on these enthralling songs” **** Daily Mirror
Currently on tour in Europe, Obel’s live band is Charlotte Danhier (cello, loops, vocals, mellotron, drums, ukulele), Catherine de Blasio (drums, vocals, bass clarinet, percussion), and Kristina Koropecki (cello, loops, vocals, percussion).
