The day you have all been waiting for is here! Jarrad Ricketts has had an overwhelming response following the release of his brand new single ‘Thinking Bout’ two weeks ago. Now fans will get to celebrate throughout the weekend with the release of Ricketts’ debut album ‘Break The Rules’ which is out TODAY across all digital platforms.
Last week Ricketts also surprised fans with the release of the music video for his previous hit single ‘Take Me To Your Heart’. Watch the video here.
Jarrad Ricketts has garnered a vast fanbase with the release of hit singles ‘Take Me To Your Heart’ and ‘New Life’, both which are included on Ricketts’ debut album ‘Break The Rules’. The latest single ‘Thinking Bout’ is already climbing the charts on radio stations across SA.
Ricketts is excited for fans to hear all the tracks on his debut album and explained what creating the album was like. “Working on my album was a completely new experience, as I’m normally writing songs for other artists. I enjoyed the creative process from the writing, to the vocal arrangement and recording. I really wanted people to get a glimpse of my fun side and also see the different influences I have musically. My favourite tracks on the album are ‘Intro’, ‘Take Me To Your Heart’, ‘New Life’, ‘Break The Rules’, ‘Work of Art’, ‘Paradise’, ‘Thinking Bout’, ‘If you like’, ‘La la la’ and ‘Unicorns’… Basically the entire album – lol!” Ricketts continued saying, “I wanted this album to be light, fun and experimental – transporting you through different sounds and lifting your spirit and mood.”
‘Break The Rules’ was recorded at Mr Mallum Studios, with Ebrahim Mallum as the master behind the making of the album. Mallum produced the album, did the programming and instrumentation on all of the tracks, and mixed & mastered the album.
“Working together with Jarrad on this album has been amazing. We always feel inspired when in studio, feeding off each other’s creativity, sometimes having to curb ourselves when we have too many good ideas. Thanks to Jarrad’s brilliant song writing, catchy melodies and great work ethic, I’ve managed to produce what I feel is my best work to date,” commented, Ebrahim Mallum.
Ricketts grew up on the Cape Flats in Athlone, and it was the arts that gave him a sense of direction that lead him to write and record his own music. Without any formal training in the arts, his persistence and drive steered him into pursuing his music career which opened up opportunities for him to perform in countries such as Spain, Finland and Sweden.
Most recently, Ricketts had the privilege of performing the British National Anthem “God Save The Queen” in front of 40 000 people at Newlands Rugby Stadium for the South Africa vs England rugby match. His performance was televised to over 150 countries internationally, an incredibly moment for this young singer.
With so much achieved already, the best is yet to come – the release of a brilliant debut album ‘Break The Rules’.
