To set the record straight – Idols SA Noma Khumalo received a beautiful song called Joy from a publishing company called Sheer Publishing to put on her new album – which we also called, Joy.
For those not in the music industry – it works like this. Artists can write their own songs, do a collaboration with other artists, or purchase song lyrics that they like, and then record it in their own style.
This last one is what we did with Noma, we purchased the song that had been sold to Sheer Publishing in 2012 by an artist called Disebo Ntsolo – who co-wrote the song with another writer, and the song went in to the “song library”.
We loved the lyrics so much and thought they would be a great fit for Noma. So we bought the song and recorded it.
Now, Ntoslo would like to be credited as writing the song. Oddly enough somebody at the publishing company chose not to put Ntsolo’s name on the song, for whatever reason – so she took to social media to call Noma and Gallo Records thieves, and hoped that Noma’s album would be a “flop”
Thank you Sheer Publishing for setting the record straight and absolving Noma from any blame. Now we just await an apology from Disebo Ntsolo…
Please contact Sheer Publishing directly for comments from the Publishing House that supplied the song “Joy” to Gallo Records South Africa and Noma Khumalo.
