With heavy hearts still in mourning – Gallo Record Company is forced to issue yet another press statement around false allegations following the burial of its artist Thami Shobede.
It seems that sadly no matter what Gallo Record Company does to support Thami and his family, there are a group of individuals who will serve to ensure that this unfounded attack on his record label carries on.
This press statement is the final statement to be issued by Gallo on the matter in the hope to once and for all lay the matter to rest so that all involved may do their best to move forward from what can only be described as a huge loss for the music industry.
Unfortunately after the unexpected onslaught against Gallo at last week’s memorial service the company was concerned for further unprovoked and unwarranted attacks on its representatives and therefore elected not to attend Thami’s funeral. Predominantly, we did not want our presence at the funeral to spark any further unnecessary outbursts but preferred to respect the space of his family and his community in their time of mourning. Gallo felt the funeral was time to pay last respects to Thami and not detract from the attention of a great musician being buried, by friends or colleagues making false assumptions and accusations.
The allegations against Gallo Record Company seemed to drive emotions high at the memorial service. We had since addressed each and every allegation which can be viewed on our website HERE…
Our presence at the memorial was used by some to make incorrect allegations about Thami’s relationship with Gallo Record Company, which we have chosen to discuss privately with his management, and also relay to his family. We felt the family should focus this time on mourning and have welcomed an inspection of Thami’s royalties and income streams when the family are ready.
Gallo Record Company have and will continue to support Thami’s family to the best of its ability through this emotionally trying time – emotionally and financially as best that we are able – and we believe that in the moment of his final rest, he should be surrounded by family and loved ones, not by accusations and hate speech. No one deserves that at their final place of rest.
On the day of the funeral, and even today as social media continues its attacks on Gallo, we are more concerned about sorting out final costs and payments as all invoices previously requested, on numerous occasions by Gallo, were not received. We are still making sure, even now after the event, that any contributions made by Gallo, or any other companies and the music industry have been sorted and paid as per our promise to all suppliers that assisted in this process of his hometown send-off.
The family requested us to assist with certain suppliers and in good faith Gallo made arrangements and those payments were done the moment invoices were received from suppliers.
As far as Gallo Record Company is concerned our duty is to Thami’s family and not any friends or colleagues whose allegations are bordering on slander.
Should the family wish to address any further matters with us, this will be done so directly when they are ready, and not through false gossip being strewn across media and public platforms. Right now our focus is on their wellbeing and respecting their privacy and loss in this very difficult time.
We trust that this finally provides clarity and the information provided will help those who have seen fit to lay blame at Gallo Record Company’s door – due to things they may have heard or seen on unreliable social media sources.
Although we have lost a friend, an artist and someone we admired greatly, we cannot allow the slander and accusations to affect other artists signed to our label, postings on their personal pages and attacking them personally does not bring closure, only more pain. Gallo has great relationships with our artists and always goes beyond the call of duty. They do not deserve this. Please cease.
Gallo Record Company hopes that now Thami has finally been laid to rest, perhaps we can lay the matter to rest too. #RIPThamiShobede
