Ben Dey makes an impeccable return to the folk sound that nurtured his musical beginnings, with the release of the single ‘This is the year’ – out today through Gallo Record Company.
Ben Dey is best known as the front man of SA rock band Ben Dey and the Concrete Lions or BDCL. While the national lockdown smothered BDCL’s ability to get together for practices and performances, it did not impede the creative side for Dey who continued writing songs as he normally would.
“’This is the year’ reflects on constraints and opportunity in a year of regulated freedom. It is an anthem of resilience, an invitation to gather and piece together what was broken, to rebuild and journey on” says Dey.
Dey’s first releases – ‘This is the year’ and ‘Somewhere way out west’ – are songs that will take you to the campfire, out in the wild. Acoustic guitar, harmonica and a vocal purposed only for story are the main elements used in both pieces and are diagnostic markers for the artist’s new solo journey. ‘This is the year’ is out now, with ‘Somewhere way out west’ following hot on the heels, due November 20th.
